Skid-proofing
Surface treatment at low Milling depth.

The process has two main purposes:
a)to improve the skid resistance; this operation normally uses Fine milling drums.
b)to improve the interlock between a new layer and the existing pavement surface; this operation normally uses standard Milling drums.
Small milling machine
Small milling machines are used for small-scale, small-volume milling operations as well as for Milling tie-ins. As a rule, they have working widths of up to 1 m. They are distinctive for their compact dimensions and high manoeuvrability.
Depending on the machine model, these machines have Milling depths of up to 33 cm. Their Milling drum is arranged at the rear, which facilitates milling right up to fixtures or other obstacles.

Standard milling
Standard milling involves the removal of asphalt pavements by milling off individual layers or the entire pavement structure. Standard milling is performed with a Tool spacing of approx. 15 mm. Milling depths of up to 35 cm and Milling widths ranging from 30 cm to 4.20 m can be achieved depending on the type of machine used.
Standard milling drum
Milling drum with a Tool spacing of approx. 15 mm.
Safety clearances
Distance between the outer edge of the machine and the passing traffic. For regulations, see ASR 5.2.
